And the beat goes on… Solano experiencing fifth COVID surge, reporting nearly 500 new cases, 2 deaths

Solano County reports 469 new COVID infections and 2 new deaths.  Benicia and Solano 7-day transmission rates SOARING.

DEATHS:  Solano reported 2 new COVID-related deaths in today’s report, both age 65+.  Solano has reported 5 deaths so far in May. COMPARE: COVID deaths reported in Solano County this year: 30 in January, 15 in February, 17 in March, 7 in April.  A total of 425 Solano residents have now died of COVID or COVID-related causes over the course of the pandemic.

TRANSMISSION RATE: With today’s report, Solano continues to  experience a very HIGH rate of transmission, with 731 new cases in the last 7 days (up from 618 at last report).  CDC FORMULA: Based on Solano County’s population, 450 or more cases in 7 days places Solano in the CDC’s population-based definition of a HIGH transmission rate.  Below 225 cases in 7 days shows MODERATE community transmission.  Numbers between 225 and 450 are considered SUBSTANTIAL transmission.

ACTIVE CASES: Solano reported 829 ACTIVE cases today, up from 798 at last report.

CASES BY CITY – Monday, May 9, 2022:

  • BENICIA added 33 new cases today, a total of 3,310 cases since the outbreak began.  TRANSMISSION RATE: Benicia has reported 50 new cases in the last 7 days, nearly DOUBLE the CDC’s HIGH rate of transmission (see below)For a city with Benicia’s population, anything over 27 cases in 7 days is considered HIGH TRANSMISSION.  14 to 27 cases is considered SUBSTANTIAL.  Below 14 is rated MODERATE.
  • Dixon added 21 new cases today, total of 4,421 cases.
  • Fairfield added 121 new cases today, total of 23,260 cases.
  • Rio Vista added 7 new cases today, total of 1,212 cases.
  • Suisun City added 28 new cases today, total of 6,109 cases.
  • Vacaville added 117 new cases today, a total of 22,107 cases.
  • Vallejo added 142 new cases today, a total of 26,256 cases.
  • Unincorporated added 0 new cases today, a total of 201 cases.

TEST RATE:  Solano County’s 7-Day Percent Positive TEST RATE was 14% today, up from 12% at last report.
>> Solano Public Health announced that beginning on May 16, it will no longer report numbers of residents tested and the County’s 7-day positive test rate.  >>With so many home-tests, I agree that these numbers are no longer reliable, BUT they do give the public helpful information when compared to similar numbers for the state and nation.  COMPARE: The CALIFORNIA 7-day % positive rate was 8.9% today, up dramatically from 3.8% at last report (May 6).  [Source: Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Tracking Center]. HOSPITALIZATIONS:

CURRENT: Solano reported the number of those currently hospitalized with COVID more than DOUBLED today from 9 persons at last report to 19.   Current hospitalizations don’t tell the whole story, though.  Only from the increase in total hospitalizations by age and race (below) can we know how many new admissions have come into our hospitals as of this date.

TOTAL hospitalizations: Solano County’s recent and total hospitalizations must be independently discovered in the County’s occasional update of hospitalizations by Age Group and by Race/Ethnicity.  Solano did not update its Age and Race charts today, leaving unchanged the pandemic total of 4,420.   TREND: Solano reported 284 hospitalizations in January, 184 in February, 644 in March, and 53 in April, and 30 so far in May.  (NOTE: The County occasionally updates age/race hospitalization data long after the fact, which probably accounts for the huge increase reported in March.)

ICU Bed Availability Solano County reported that the number of available hospital beds dropped significantly today, from 56% at last report to only 45% today, still within the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Ventilator Availability in Solano County fell slightly today from 78% to 77% available, in the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Solano reports 30 new COVID hospitalizations, over half age 65+ (who are 17% of population)

Solano County reports 262 new COVID infections and 30 new hospitalizations. (Tap here for hospitalizations.)  Benicia and Solano County continue in HIGH rate of transmission.

DEATHS:  Solano reported no new COVID-related deaths in today’s report. Solano has reported 3 deaths so far in May. COMPARE: COVID deaths reported in Solano County this year: 30 in January, 15 in February, 17 in March, 7 in April.  A total of 423 Solano residents have now died of COVID or COVID-related causes over the course of the pandemic.

TRANSMISSION RATE: With today’s report, Solano continues to  experience a HIGH rate of transmission, with 618 new cases in the last 7 days (down slightly from 623 at last report).  CDC FORMULA: Based on Solano County’s population, 450 or more cases in 7 days places Solano in the CDC’s population-based definition of a HIGH transmission rate.  Below 225 cases in 7 days shows MODERATE community transmission.  Numbers between 225 and 450 are considered SUBSTANTIAL transmission.

ACTIVE CASES: Solano reported 798 ACTIVE cases today, up from 700 at last report.

CASES BY CITY – Thursday, May 5, 2022:

  • BENICIA added 17 new cases today, a total of 3,277 cases since the outbreak began.  TRANSMISSION RATE: Benicia has reported 39 new cases in the last 7 days, continuing in the CDC’s HIGH rate of transmissionFor a city with Benicia’s population, anything over 27 cases in 7 days is considered HIGH TRANSMISSION.  14 to 27 cases is considered SUBSTANTIAL.  Below 14 is rated MODERATE.
  • Dixon added 5 new cases today, total of 4,400 cases.
  • Fairfield added 65 new cases today, total of 23,139 cases.
  • Rio Vista added 3 new cases today, total of 1,205 cases.
  • Suisun City added 21 new cases today, total of 6,081 cases.
  • Vacaville added 65 new cases today, a total of 21,990 cases.
  • Vallejo added 86 new cases today, a total of 26,114 cases.
  • Unincorporated added 0 new cases today, a total of 201 cases.

TEST RATE:  Solano County’s 7-Day Percent Positive TEST RATE was 12% today, up from 11% at last report.

ICU Bed Availability Solano County reported available hospital beds rose today, from 35% at last report to 56% today, within the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Ventilator Availability in Solano County fell today from 84% to 78% available, in the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Coronavirus continues to spread in Benicia; Solano County reports 3 new COVID deaths

Solano County reports 356 new COVID infections and 3 new deaths.  Benicia and Solano County continue in HIGH rate of transmission.

DEATHS:  Solano reported three new COVID-related deaths in today’s report, all age 65+. Solano has reported 3 deaths so far in May. COMPARE BELOW: COVID deaths reported in Solano County this year: 30 in January, 15 in February, 17 in March, and 7 in April.  A total of 423 Solano residents have now died of COVID or COVID-related causes over the course of the pandemic.

TRANSMISSION RATE: With today’s report, Solano continues to  experience a HIGH rate of transmission, with 623 new cases in the last 7 days (up from 527 at last report).  CDC FORMULA: Based on Solano County’s population, 450 or more cases in 7 days places Solano in the CDC’s population-based definition of a HIGH transmission rate.  Below 225 cases in 7 days shows MODERATE community transmission.  Numbers between 225 and 450 are considered SUBSTANTIAL transmission.

ACTIVE CASES: Solano reported 700 ACTIVE cases today, up from 621 at last report.

CASES BY CITY – Monday, May 2, 2022:

  • BENICIA added 22 new cases today, a total of 3,260 cases since the outbreak began.  TRANSMISSION RATE: Benicia has reported 52 new cases in the last 7 days, continuing in the CDC’s HIGH rate of transmissionFor a city with Benicia’s population, anything over 27 cases in 7 days is considered HIGH TRANSMISSION.  14 to 27 cases is considered SUBSTANTIAL.  Below 14 is rated MODERATE.
  • Dixon added 11 new cases today, total of 4,395 cases.
  • Fairfield added 102 new cases today, total of 23,074 cases.
  • Rio Vista added 3 new cases today, total of 1,202 cases.
  • Suisun City added 28 new cases today, total of 6,060 cases.
  • Vacaville added 62 new cases today, a total of 21,925 cases.
  • Vallejo added 127 new cases today, a total of 26,028 cases.
  • Unincorporated added 1 new case today, a total of 201 cases.

TEST RATE:  Solano County’s 7-Day Percent Positive TEST RATE was 11% today, up from 10% at last report. Solano Public Health announced today that beginning on May 16, it will no longer report numbers of residents tested and the County’s 7-day positive test rate.  With so many home-tests, I agree that these numbers are no longer reliable, but they do give the public helpful information when compared to similar numbers for the state and nation.  COMPARE: The CALIFORNIA 7-day % positive rate was 2.2% today, down from 2.7% at last report.  [Source: Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Tracking Center]. The U.S. 7-day % positive rate was 7.3%. today, up from 6.1% at last report. [Source: CDC COVID Data Tracker.] 

HOSPITALIZATIONS:

CURRENT: Solano reported the number of those currently hospitalized with COVID doubled today from 8 persons at last report to 16. The County did not update its Age, Race/Ethnicity hospitalization charts today. TREND: Solano reported 284 hospitalizations in January, 184 in February, 644 in March, and 53 in April.  (The County often updates age/race hospitalization data long after the fact, which probably accounts for the huge increase reported in March.)

ICU Bed Availability Solano County reported available hospital beds rose slightly today, from 32% at last report to 35% today, still just within the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Ventilator Availability in Solano County also rose dramatically today from 64% to 84% available, in the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Solano adds over 500 new COVID cases in 7 days, 2 new deaths and 24 hospitalizations. Back in high rate of transmission

Solano County reports 527 new COVID infections in last 7 days, 2 new deaths and 24 hospitalizations.  Benicia and Solano County back in HIGH rate of transmission.

Solano Public Health COVID dashboard, Thursday, April 28, 2022:

DEATHS:  Solano reported two new COVID-related deaths in today’s report. One person who died was age 50-64 and one was age 65+. Solano has reported 7 deaths so far in April, all in the last 2 weeks. COMPARE: 15 COVID deaths were reported in February, 17 in March.  A total of 420 Solano residents have now died of COVID or COVID-related causes over the course of the pandemic.

TRANSMISSION RATE: With today’s report, Solano is once again experiencing a HIGH rate of transmission, with 527 new cases in the last 7 days (up from 397 at last report).  CDC FORMULA: Based on Solano County’s population, 450 or more cases in 7 days places Solano in the CDC’s population-based definition of a HIGH transmission rate.  Below 225 cases in 7 days shows MODERATE community transmission.  Numbers between 225 and 450 are considered SUBSTANTIAL transmission.

ACTIVE CASES: Solano reported 621 ACTIVE cases today, up from 441 at last report.

CASES BY CITY – Thursday, April 28:

  • BENICIA added 30 new cases today, 103 in April so far, and a total of 3,238 cases since the outbreak began.  TRANSMISSION RATE: Benicia has reported 53 new cases in the last 7 days, increasing well into the CDC’s HIGH rate of transmission.  Benicia bounced between MODERATE and SUBSTANTIAL rate from mid-March through mid-April.  For a city with Benicia’s population, anything over 27 cases in 7 days is considered HIGH TRANSMISSION.  14 to 27 cases is considered SUBSTANTIAL.  Below 14 is rated MODERATE.
  • Dixon added 13 new cases today, total of 4,384 cases.
  • Fairfield added 68 new cases today, total of 22,972 cases.
  • Rio Vista added 5 new cases today, total of 1,199 cases.
  • Suisun City added 20 new cases today, total of 6,032 cases.
  • Vacaville added 45 new cases today, a total of 21,863 cases.
  • Vallejo added 86 new cases today, a total of 25,901 cases.
  • Unincorporated added 0 new cases today, a total of 200 cases.

TEST RATE:  Solano County’s 7-Day Percent Positive TEST RATE was 10% today, up from 8% at last report. Solano does not compare favorably to the nation or the rest of California: The CALIFORNIA 7-day % positive rate was 2.7% today, up from 2.3% at last report.  [Source: Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Tracking Center]. HOSPITALIZATIONS:

CURRENT: Solano reported the number of those currently hospitalized with COVID in the County rose today from 7 persons to 8. Current hospitalizations don’t tell the whole story, though, as this number reflects both admissions and discharges.  Only from the increase in total hospitalizations (below) can we know how many new admissions have come into our hospitals as of this date.

TOTAL hospitalizations: Solano updated its Age Group and Race/Ethnicity charts today, adding 24 previously unreported hospitalizations, someone age 65+, for a pandemic total of 4,390. (See below, and note that the County’s hospitalization numbers for Race/Ethnicity is less accurate, but presented here to show relative percentages).   TREND: Solano reported 284 hospitalizations in January, 184 in February, and (without explanation) 644 in March.  53 so far in April, and the County often updates this age/race hospitalization data long after the fact.

ICU Bed Availability Solano County reported available hospital beds fell again today, from 37% at last report to only 32% today, just barely in the County’s GREEN safe zone.

Ventilator Availability in Solano County also fell today from 70% to 64% available, in the County’s GREEN safe zone.
